Winners emerge at 4-H Dairy Showmanship competition at Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair

GOUVERNEUR -- The 2010 Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair is now history. For several 4-H Dairy Showmen it will be a time to remember for quite a while. The 4-H program in St. Lawrence County has produced quite a few good Dairy Cattle Showmen who showed their stuff at the fair.

Anita Morrill of Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County reports on the competition winners.

In the Novice Class Bailey Decker of Antwerp took top honors with Chandler Roberts of Gouverneur securing the second place finish. In the 9 – 11 Year Old Showmanship Class Ryan Morrill from DeKalb Junction garnered the top spot, and Megan Parkman of Canton taking second place.

Sadie Smith of DeKalb Junction was the first place Showman for the 12-14 Years of Age Showmanship Class; with Laurie King of Waddington taking second place. Ben Hoffman of Gouverneur was the first place Showman for the age group 15 Years of Age and over, while Jesse Hargrave of Heuvelton right behind him in second place.

The Master Showman for the 4-H Dairy Show was Sadie Smith of DeKalb Junction. The Ayrshire Breed Master Showman was Ben Hoffman of Gouverneur. The Master Showmen of the Holstein Breed went to Laurie King of Waddington and Ryan Morrill of DeKalb Junction.
