POTSDAM – Internationally celebrated jazz legend and arts advocate Wynton Marsalis will accept an honorary doctorate today from SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher in a New York City ceremony, and SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School will celebrate the event in Potsdam with screens showing the event in two Crane locations.
People will also be able to view the proceedings via the Web.
Marsalis was nominated for the degree by SUNY Potsdam and The Crane School, and at his request a group of five Crane students, along with Prof. Bret Zvacek, will participate in the event. Marsalis is expected to join the jazz group for a number following the conferral of his degree.
The event is set to run from 3 to 5 p.m.
Streaming transmission of the event will be live at http://www.potsdam.edu/crane. Look for the link to the ceremony.
On the Potsdam campus, the event will be projected in two Crane locations: in Wakefield Recital Hall (in Bishop Hall, on the plaza level), throughout its duration; and in Snell Recital Hall, as part of the annual Crane Student Association Convocation.
