CANTON -- Megan Mousaw has been appointed the Canton village deputy treasurer, taking over for former deputy treasurer Deborah Murphy who has retired from the position Dec. 29.

The village Board of Trustees appointed Mousaw to the position at their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 16. The appointment is for a probationary term which could last from 2 to 12 months. After that time, it is expected that Mousaw will take over the position permanently.

Village mayor Michael Dalton said Mousaw had worked in the village clerk’s office as a part time clerk since 2015.

Deputy mayor Carol Pynchon added that village was “really lucky to have [deputy clerk] Cara [Adams] and Megan” and gave village clerk Sally Noble and her department high marks for the work they do.

The salary for the probationary appointment is $16.57 hourly, said Dalton. The rate will increase by 50¢ an hour once the probationary period concludes.

Noble said that the village has advertised to fill the part time clerk position left vacant by Mousaw’s appointment as probationary deputy clerk. The village has received several applications thus far, said Noble.

The deadline to submit applications to the clerk’s office for these jobs is March 25.
