RENSSELAER FALLS – A United Helpers spokeswoman says a woman charged with stealing medication while working as a resident aid has been placed on administrative leave and faces termination pending investigation results.

Amber I. Smith, 22, of Heuvelton, was charged with petit larceny while working as a resident aid for United Helpers.

It is alleged she stole prescription medication.

United Helpers Spokeswoman Cinnamon Alberto says a routine audit performed at the facility revealed the medication had been stolen. She said Smith was placed on leave as soon as she was identified as the suspect.

Alberto said United Helpers takes the safety of their patients seriously and the company policy is being followed.
