Ultrasound students train at Canton-Potsdam Hospital

POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital is serving as a clinical rotation site for the Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics’ (IUD) ultrasound program, located in Spanish Fort, Ala.

The institute offers a variety of courses for those “who want to develop new skills or expand upon their existing ultrasound knowledge base,” CPH said.

Dr. G. Michael Maresca, founder and president of St. Lawrence Radiology, also serves as the institute’s medical director.

“The Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics is a well-respected program that offers tremendous opportunities for local individuals interested in the field of ultrasound imaging. Upon graduation, technologists enter the workforce with a solid skillset, making them highly desirable to employers offering competitive wages,” Maresca said in a prepared statement from CPH.

“For students who wish to work locally, the one-year program allows them to complete their clinical rotations right here at CPH. The on-site experience allows students to become familiar with the hospital, staff, equipment, and culture; it’s a tremendous benefit to our patients when new staff are already acclimated to the environment. With the demand for ultrasonographers extremely high and the supply extremely low, students of the program have a very good chance of acquiring a fulltime position upon graduation,” CPH director of imaging services Stacie Woodward said in a prepared statement.

The hospital recently hired two students from the program. Maxine Hill was hired in 2014 and, most recently, Allyssa Chambers accepted a position this year. Ultrasound intern Dylanne Hodge is newly enrolled in the program and has started her rotation at CPH. Later this year, one of CPH’s radiologic technologists Kathryn Miller, will enter the program and is also planning to complete her clinical rotation at CPH, the hospital said.
