CANTON - Two St. Lawrence University graduates have been elected to its Board of Trustees, each for a six-year term.

David Officer retired as senior vice president for marketing from The Permal Group in 2009.

He had worked at Permal for 15 years and prior to that, worked for Merrill Lynch for 20 years.

He graduated from St. Lawrence in 1967 with a degree in psychology and earned an MBA from Syracuse University.

Officer has been very active as a volunteer for St. Lawrence, in admissions, fund-raising, career advisement and alumni activities, funding a scholarship and funding creation of the Officer Lilac Garden on campus.

During his career in finance, he provided internship opportunities for over 60 St. Lawrence students.

Officer has been a member of the Alumni Executive Council and served as an Alumni Trustee from 1994 to 2000; he is a resident of New York City and Essex, CT.

Amanda Pearson, of Washington, DC, is a candidate for a master's degree in public health at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

She graduated from St. Lawrence in 1992 with a degree in government and a minor in African studies; she also holds a master's degree in comparative politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Before returning to graduate study, Pearson worked for the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, an international research center, where she was an editor and director of publications.

She was a McCurdy-Sprague Trustee from 2001 through 2005, positions on the board designated for alumni between two and 10 years from earning their St. Lawrence degrees.
