POTSDAM -- Two people are being airlifted to Burlington with severe injuries from what was reported as a serious head-on collision on state Route 56, according to officials with the Potsdam Fire Department.
One occupant from each vehicle was injured, according to the fire department.
Each was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and are awaiting a Lifeflight to Fletcher-Allen Healthcare in Burlington, Vt.
The accident, which was reported at 4:35 p.m., occurred near the railroad tracks north of Potsdam, according to firefighters
Potsdam fire officials said they do not have the injured people’s identities or know the extent of their injuries.
An employee at the Canton state police barracks said no one was available to take a reporter’s call because they were all at the accident scene.
