CANTON -- Two people were injured and both drivers were cited in a two-car collision on U.S. Route 11 that briefly delayed travel on the highway on Tuesday morning.

Troopers say a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by James J. Thomas, 47, of Gouverneur, was traveling east on U.S. Route 11 around 8:40 a.m., when he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the opposite lane.

He struck a 2010 Ford F250 driven by Katherine V. Sanderson, 39, of Canton, who was traveling west.

Thomas was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for eye pain. His passenger, Jennifer L. Thomas, 51, also of Gouverneur, was transported to CPH for chest pain. Sanderson was not injured.

Johnson’s Towing responded and removed both vehicles from the scene.

Thomas was given a citation for failure to keep right. Sanderson was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. Both are to appear in Town of Canton Court on a later date, police said.

Canton Village Police Department assisted state troopers at the scene.
