POTSDAM -- In three new episodes of North Country Matters, host Donna Seymour speaks with Maggie McKenna and Sarah Lister of Potsdam, who are making a difference in their community both as elected officials and at their workplaces.

McKenna was a successful write-in candidate for Village of Potsdam Trustee and Lister was elected as a Town of Potsdam Councilwoman in 2017. They discuss their paths to elected office, what young electeds bring to public service, and how they are connecting with constituents about local issues.

They talk about the Climate Smart Community process both boards are pursuing, and how to create new paths to power outside of the traditional two party structure.

In her day job as the Adult Program Coordinator for the Potsdam Public Library, McKenna has developed a wide array of programming for the adult patrons of the library. She talks about discussion groups, music programs, and upcoming education and information programs to create community and enhance lives.

Lister, with the Department of Public Health and Human Performance at SUNY Potsdam, is involved with the Campus Food Pantry. She discusses needs in the college community, the who, what and where of the pantry, and how to make donations. She also talks about public health, how students can give back to the community, and the lessons that can be learned from both giving and receiving the kind of help the pantry offers.
