PARISHVILLE – Two lost hunters were rescued by forest rangers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation early one morning last week.
According to a DEC press release, the agency’s Central Dispatch was notified that the men, both in their mid 60s, were due back from hunting around 3 p.m.
The family had checked a few known hunting locations along White Hill Road without success, DEC said.
Four rangers were sent to find the men. The rangers were joined by county sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
At around 1:30 a.m., the lost hunters responded to signal shots fired by Rangers by firing shots of their own. Rangers took a compass bearing on the signal shots and located the men around 2:45 a.m.
DEC said both men were cold and wet, but in good health. They were returned to their vehicle by 3:30 a.m.
All search personnel had cleared the scene by 4 a.m.
