MASSENA -- Village police say two suspects who attempted to flee an officer were captured and charged with possessing drugs and a stun gun.

Floyd H. Smith Jr., 28, of Irish Settlement Road, Waddington, is charged with two counts each of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and resisting arrest and single counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal mischief, running a stop sign and failure to signal.

Richard L. Schwartfigure, 21, of Center Street, Massena, is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony, and a warrant out of Madrid Town Court for unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Smith fled police on Tuesday night after being spotted by Ptl. Cody Wilson, who recognized Smith from a previous police chase where he got away, according to documents filed with Massena Village Court.

Smith, operating a Chrysler 200 with Schwartfigure in the passenger seat, pulled into 47 Sycamore Street and the two ran on foot, the documents state.

During the pursuit behind buildings on Sycamore, Schwartfigure allegedly dropped a Guard Dog Security stun gun, the documents state.

Smith was arraigned by Acting Massena Justice Patrick Serguson and remanded to the county jail in Canton in lieu of $2,000 bail or $4,000 bond. He also had a warrant from Franklin County for violation of probation, police said.

Schwartfigure was arraigned by Serguson and released, police said.
