POTSDAM – Two men are facing a variety of charges for allegedly stealing a golf cart belonging to Clarkson University after police found them in the woods behind Pine Street Arena Saturday night.
Jacob T. Heywood, 20, of Athens, and Richard J. Hummer, 21, of West Coxsackie, were arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle and conspiracy sixth degree for allegedly driving the cart down Pine Street, village police said.
Patrols located the golf cart at the intersection of Pine Street and Madrid Avenue unoccupied. Police then located the suspects in the woods behind the arena at 10:57 p.m. and took them into custody.
Hummer was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate; inadequate headlights; inadequate tail lamps; operating an unregistered motor vehicle on highway; and no seat belt.
Heywood was additionally charged with no seat belt-passenger.
Both men were released on appearance tickets returnable in Potsdam Village Court on April 25.
