Two Massena grads receive first Goldenaire scholarships in school’s history

The Canton Goldenaires have awarded scholarships to two Massena Central High School graduates.

These were the first two Goldenaire awards given to students from Massena Central.

Juliana Alfano has been studying vocal performance, ballet, tap, jazz, and has been taking lyrical lessons for years.

She was a member of the jazz band for four years, the Harmonettes, Show Choir and Vocal Jazz Quartets.

Juliana has also served as President and Treasurer in these organizations to gain leadership skills.

She performed in the 2010 Conference All-State Women’s Chorus and the 2011 MENC All-Eastern Mixed Choir.

She has taken part in a number of plays (The Music Man, 42nd Street, The King and I, The Pajama Game, Annie and Happy Days) in many different positions.

In addition, Juliana has an excellent academic record at Massena Central.

Chelcie Pellegrino has been involved in music since the fourth grade.

She has been a part of drama club musicals, pep band, marching band, concert band, jazz band, mixed chorus, select mixed choir, and select vocal group.

Chelcie has been willing to share her interest and energy by volunteering to sing at elementary schools, working on props and lights, and working as stage manager.

She showed her diversity by being the captain of the varsity swimming team and VP of the Student Council.

Her talents were well known but did not overshadow her academic achievements.

A member of the National Honor Society, Chelcie will be studying Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

The Canton Goldenaires thank all the community members who order Singing Valentines in February.

The program provides scholarship funding for the high school students in our area.
