ROSSIE – Two people were killed Saturday afternoon in a two-car accident on NYS Hwy. 11 near the Gouverneur town line.

State police say their preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Dodge pick-up truck operated by Shawn M. Trimm, 32, of Gouverneur, was northbound when it collided shortly before 3:21 p.m. with a southbound 1998 Plymouth van operated by Shirley A. Hays, 69, of Gouverneur.

Hays was pronounced dead at the scene by R.B. Lawrence, St. Lawrence County Coroner, and her passenger, Angela Scott, 8, of Gouverneur, was transported to E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, where she was pronounced deceased by Dr. Nina Maravegias.

The pick-up truck was occupied by Trimm, his wife, Melanie, 25, and their two children, Hannah, 2, and Hailey, 1.

Melanie Trimm, the front seat passenger, was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment and their two daughters were taken to E.J. Noble Hospital where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

There is evidence that seat belts were being used by all passengers and both youths were properly restrained in child-safety seats, police said.

The investigation is continuing by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Canton and the Troop "B" Collision Reconstruction Unit.
