GOUVERNEUR -- Two people were injured, one of which was flown to a Vermont hospital, in a two-car collision on Sunday.
Around 1:24 p.m. that day, state police say they responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 11 near Bristol Road.
Police say a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, operated by Michael R. Roach, 46, of Ogdensburg, was parked on the east shoulder of the highway facing north. Roach attempted to make a u-turn and failed to yield to oncoming northbound traffic. Roach’s vehicle was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Travis A. Smithers, 38, of Heuvelton, troopers said.
Roach was transported via LifeNet to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt. with broken ribs and leg injuries. A passenger in Roach’s vehicle, 61-year-old Deborah A. Deloney of Ogdensburg was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for chest and leg pain, police said.
Smithers was not injured, police said.
Roach's vehicle was removed from the scene by Reliable Towing and Smithers’ vehicle was removed by Spilman's Towing, police said.
Troopers say they continue to investigate the crash.
