POTSDAM -- State police say they have identified the woman who found a purse left behind by another shopper March 20 at the Walmart in Potsdam but didn’t turn it in.
Troopers said the woman who forgot her purse told them it had more than $800 in it.
State police asked for NorthCountryNow.com's help late Tuesday afternoon, to show a photo of the woman on our web site. This afternoon, they asked us to remove the photo because the woman had been identified and NorthCountryNow.com viewers were still calling the state police offering information on the woman.
Trooper Greg Hayes said that on March 20, a shopper had parked her cart in the vestibule at the store and pulled her shopping bags out of it and left the store, forgetting her purse in the cart.
When she realized what she had done, she returned to the store but no one had turned the purse in.
Police and store personnel pulled video recordings and saw the woman who found the purse. She can be seen picking it up out of the cart, looking around, apparently speaking briefly with some people, hesitating, and then leaving the store.
An edited version of the video can be seen on YouTube.
