CANTON — State police have released the names of the two people killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 68 near the intersection of County Route 14 on Thursday afternoon.
Troopers say they responded to the accident at approximately 12:12 p.m.
The investigation revealed that a 2015 Honda Fit, operated by Antoine St. Pierre, 82, of Tupper Lake, was traveling west on State Route 68.
St. Pierre attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle on the left, which was stopped in traffic, waiting to make a left turn onto County Route 14, when his vehicle struck a 2011 Honda Fit head-on traveling east on State Route 68, operated by Michael Linderman, 60, of Ogdensburg, police said.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, and were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood authorized the removal of the deceased to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
A section of the road was closed temporarily.
Autopsies will be performed at a later date to be announced.
