CANTON -- State police have released the names of the drivers of three vehicles in involved in an accident along U.S. Rt. 11 at the Cowan Road Thursday afternoon in which two of the drivers were injured

State police said they responded to a report of the accident just before 3 p.m.

They said that a 2014 Mitsubishi box truck, driven by 20-year-old Stephen M. Bessette of Syracuse, was southbound on Rt. 11 when his vehicle rear-ended a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado operated by 65-year-old Michael D. Wright of Colton, who was stopped facing south on Rt. 11 waiting to make a left hand turn onto Cowan Road.

The crash caused Wright’s vehicle to travel into oncoming traffic, where he was struck by a 2007 International Harvester dump truck, operated by 54-year-old Loyal B. Richards Jr. of Madrid, who was northbound on Rt. 11, troopers said.

Canton and Potsdam Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Bessette was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was treated and released with bruises and contusions to both legs.

Wright was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was treated and released with a broken finger on his right hand.

Richards was not injured, according to police.

Bessette was issued a ticket for following too closely, returnable to Town of Canton Court.
