POTSDAM – The wheels are in motion for another staple business in downtown to close its doors soon.
The Tread Mill will close in 2017.
Ted Prahl, owner of the store at 55 Market St., says plans are in place for him to retire and close the shop next spring.
“I would like to clarify what is happening at my business,” Prahl said in a prepared statement.
The store has operated for 44 years.
The store will close from late October until early December. The shop reopens around the holidays and will remain closed until mid-March, like last year, and remain open for the spring.
Prahl cited retirement and small profitability as reasons for his decision.
“Our community has seen similar fates for established businesses like Northern Music and Wear on Earth,” he said.
Prahl said he is looking for a buyer for the business, but noted the options were slim.
