POTSDAM -- A Hopkinton woman was charged with tailgating after a four-car chain reaction accident near the entrance to Clarkson University.

Sharon A. Marshall, 66, Hopkinton received a ticket for following too closely from village police after her car allegedly struck the rear of a car in front of her at about 4 p.m. Thursday on Maple Street.

The car she struck was shoved into the rear of the next car, and so on until four cars were damaged, according to police.

Two vehicles were towed away from the scene and one vehicle left the scene of the accident before police arrived. The driver of that car is described as a young white male. If anyone has information on this vehicle they are asked to contact the Potsdam Police Department at 265-2121.

The Potsdam Police Department reports no injuries. They were assisted at the scene by the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.
