OGDENSBURG – A third man was charged in connection with a stolen car that was burned at Wheathouse Bay, according to city police.
On March 30 members of the Ogdensburg Police Department responded with Ogdensburg Fire Department to a vehicle fire in Wheathouse Bay.
After the fire department quickly extinguished the flames an investigation was immediately started due to the fire’s suspicious nature.
The vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the Syracuse area. Following an investigation police charged two men on April 3.
Andrew M. Petrie, 17, 431 Allen St., Syracuse was arrested for alleged fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a Class E felony, and alleged third-degree arson, a Class C felony
Eric T. Jeffers, 19, 24 South Ave., Cortland was arrested for alleged fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a Class E felony.
However, Ogdensburg Police received further leads which were followed to the “furthest extent.”
The investigation continued a third suspect was developed and arrested on for his involvement in the intentional burning of a stolen vehicle.
Richard D. Goolden, Jr., 35, was charged with fifth-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
The investigation was conducted by Firefighter Joe Sovie, Sgt. Matthew Erwin and Detective Jason Streeter. The Ogdensburg Police Department was also assisted on scene by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.
