As temperatures rise, sleet will give way to rain in St. Lawrence County, according to National Weather Service

Sleet and freezing rain which caused many schools across St. Lawrence County to delay this morning will likely change over to rain showers this afternoon and snowfall this evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Sleet and freezing rain are predicted to continue through late morning and shift to rain as temperatures continue to rise throughout the day.

Highs today are expected to be around 43 and breezy. Winds are expected to range from 11 to 22 mph as the day goes on with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Rain showers are expected to continue on an off until around 9 p.m. Snow showers are likely after 11 p.m.

The overnight low will be around 27 and very windy with 16 to 23 mph winds and gusts possibly reaching 41 mph, the services says.

The St. Lawrence Valley could see 1-2 inches of new snow on Wednesday morning and early afternoon, NWS says. Highs will be near 27 degrees with a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

There is a chance of snow showers through the weekend with little to snow accumulation expected, NWS says.

Wednesday

Snow showers likely, mainly before 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph after midnight.

Thursday

A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. South wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night

A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 22. South wind 5 to 8 mph.

Friday

A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 29. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Friday Night

A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday

A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. South wind around 5 mph.
