POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will offer a Single Reed Summit concert, featuring two guest artists performing alongside the Crane Wind Ensemble, on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
Guest artists Otis Murphy and Michael Lowenstern will perform on the saxophone and bass clarinet, respectively.
The concert will open with David Dzubay's 1999 work, "Myaku," followed by Paul Creston's Concerto for Alto Saxophone, Op. 26, featuring Murphy. The Crane Wind Ensemble will then present Steven Stucky's 1994 piece, "Fanfares and Arias."
Following a brief intermission, Lowenstern will perform on the bass clarinet alongside the CWE for Evan Ziporyn's 2002 composition, "Drill."
The concert will conclude with a translation of Hans Werner Henze's "Ragtimes and Habaneras."
The Single Reed Summit at The Crane School of Music features recitals, lectures, clinics, discussion panels and masterclasses for students in middle school and older, performing on the clarinet or saxophone. This concert is the culminating event.
The event is free.
It will be broadcast live on the SUNY Potsdam website at the performance time: www.potsdam.edu/academics/Crane/streaming.
