POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Residence Life staff will receive a crash-course in fire safety and crisis management through a collaboration with fire department officials and first responders Thursday, Aug. 25.
Nearly 100 resident assistants and resident directors for the college's dormitories will undergo a fire safety program from 9 a.m. to noon on the Potsdam campus.
New York State Fire Inspector Chris Taylor and firefighters from the Potsdam Fire Department will give a presentation about safety before testing the students' skills in extinguishing live fires and searching for residents in smoke-filled dorm rooms.
The RAs and RDs will also inspect a room filled with fire safety violations.
The presentation will begin at 9 a.m. in Kellas Hall, while the training will take place in the Draime Hall Extension and Bowman East residence halls.
