Activities have returned to normal on SUNY Canton’s campus following two alleged death threats made through social media Thursday.
The lockdown was lifted around 7 pm following a search of the campus by university police and other law enforcement agencies, according to an email sent to SUNY Canton staff and a Facebook post by the college. The search turned up nothing, and all campus buildings were cleared.
The college said that students and staff were free to move about campus normally, and classes will resume Friday. An open house had to be rescheduled, according to the post.
The threats, posted by someone who announced a suicide plan and threatened to kill others on campus, caused SUNY Canton to cancel classes mid-day Thursday, and Canton Central School canceled after school activities due to the “unsettled security concerns,” according to the school’s web page.
Any suspicious activity can be reported to university police at 386-7777 or police@canton.edu.
