CANTON -- SUNY Canton will be getting $1.5 million in funding for facilities upgrades.
SUNY Canton will put $1 million in funding toward the rehabilitation of Chaney Hall, its only full dining hall, handicapped accessibility of which will be enhanced.
$500,000 will go toward expanding the college’s nursing program, which recently had to cut the number of nursing students due to a lack of hospital internships, known as clinicals, in the area. The expansion will allow SUNY Canton to offer clinicals on campus.
State Senator Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton) secured what a statement from her office called “special funding” for the projects.
Her district includes the western half of St. Lawrence County including Ogdensburg, Canton and Gouverneur.
A similar amount will be allocated to SUNY Oswego, which is also in her district.
