CANTON -- Students at SUNY Canton will have a pair of new dining options this year and returning students will notice about $2 million site-improvement projects over the summer and parking lot upgrades when they begin classes Monday, Aug. 29.

Students can expect two new dining options when SUNY Canton opens for the fall 2016 semester.

Roos Court is opening in MacArthur Hall where JT’s used to be. The completely renovated eatery will be now offer made-to-order salads and oven-toasted sandwiches in addition to homemade soups.

Rendezvous, located in the Richard W. Miller campus center, now features hamburger meals with fries, pizza and hot or cold hero sandwiches. There will also be a soup station and fresh fruit and salad options. The expanded eatery will be open for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and will serve meals until 7 p.m. on weekdays. Rendezvous is also open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.

The college also completed several major improvement projects over the summer. One of the most visible additions is the new LED sign on Cornell Drive, which will be used to relay information about on-campus events, directory information and other important announcements.

The campus received two newly refinished parking lots, approximately 80 new streetlights and renovated gas lines as part of its $2 million site-improvement projects over the summer. Many of the improvements are designed to help the college become more energy efficient and make utilities easier to track and manage.

New this semester, SUNY Canton students will be on call to help their peers with medical emergencies. The college is launching its own Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Squad, an officially designated Basic Life Support First Response Agency that provides support for medical emergencies at the college’s main campus.

Two new co-chief diversity officers will be working with students, faculty and staff this year. Lashawanda Ingram, the college’s director of diversity and new student orientation, and Professor William T. Jones, who teaches in the Business Administration and Legal Studies programs, have both been tapped to serve in the new positions.

Additionally, more than a dozen new faculty members and more than a dozen new professional staff members have begun their SUNY Canton careers.
