Sun, thunder, 80-degree temperatures, wind all predicted for the coming week

POTSDAM — A mixed bag of weather is predicted by the National Weather Service for the coming week in St. Lawrence County.

Mostly sunny skies, with a high near 82 are to preside over the region today, turning to some cloudy night skies this evening with a low around 58.

Mostly sunny again tomorrow, and warm with a high near 88. A 30 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m. is forecast Sunday night, with partly cloudy skies, and a low around 72. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible.

Monday will see the potential for occasional showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., reports the Weather Service. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Highs near 88 are expected. A vigorous southwest wind of 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph are predicted as well. The weather service says the chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

Occasional showers and thunderstorms will prevail into the evening before midnight, then a chance of showers is expected between midnight and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain, NOAA forecasters said, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

Tuesday will see partly sunny skies with a high near 76. Some clouds are expected to move in over night with a high near 55.

The sun comes back Wednesday, along with a high of 81. Stars should be visible at night, with mostly clear conditions and a high around 56.

Sunny conditions are predicted to continue into Thursday and Thursday night, with highs near 79 during the day falling to 58 that night.

Finally, Friday will see mostly sunny conditions all day with a high of 82 expected.
