Senator Joseph A. Griffo, R-Rome, whose 47th Senate District includes Massena and Potsdam, has been named the new Chair of the Senate Banks Committee by the State Senate Majority for the 2011 legislative session.
“We are going to be tackling some really tough issues this session - from a reeling economy to a scarcity of financial resources,” said Griffo. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address these and the many other banking concerns New Yorkers face daily.”
Senator Majority Leader Dean Skelos said, “The Banks Committee plays an important role in the financial security of our state. As a legislator, I believe we should be working to establish an environment where our financial institutions help people thrive in their jobs and in their communities.” He concludes, “I believe that Joe’s insight on these issues will be valuable.”
Griffo added, “With a sluggish economy, it is important we use our resources wisely and to the best benefit of the state. New York’s banks and financial sector need to be a partner for good jobs, strong businesses, and an infrastructure that supports this goal. This Committee will move legislation forward to that end.”
