AKWESASNE -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe will host a public hearing for tribe members meeting as part of their 2019 tribal operating budget process. Community input on the 2019 calendar year budget will be welcomed on Thursday, July 19 at 5 p.m. in the Community Building Lobby.

“The July 19th meeting is not a requirement of the 2013 Tribal Procedures Act however, consulting and obtaining input from membership on the community’s funding priorities continues to be an important part of the budgeting process,” Tsiorasa Barreiro, the tribe’s executive director, said in a news release. “It represents the third year that a consultation meeting is being provided to give community members an opportunity to participate at the beginning of the Annual Tribal Budget’s development.”

The 2019 Annual Tribal Budget has not been developed. Tribal members are encouraged to share ideas related to funding priorities, improving revenues, operating efficiencies, program enhancements and the budget process itself, according to the tribe’s announcement.

In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act, the resulting Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget will be presented at a public meeting scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 18. Presentation of the Draft 2019 Budget will then be followed by a 15-day comment period that ends on Monday, Oct. 29 for tribal members to provide written comments and concerns.

If any written responses are received during the comment period, a second public meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2 for the Tribal Council to respond, prior to its acceptance and implementation for the coming fiscal year.
