St. Lawrence River Valley flood watch expected to be lifted as temps cool off

A flood watch in the St. Lawrence River Valley is expected to be lifted early this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Northeast St. Lawrence County and northwest Franklin County are under flood warning until 6:45 p.m. tonight due to the rice of ice jams from recent rain and snowmelt, NWS says.

Meteorologists are calling for a mostly clear night with temperatures dipping into the low 20s.

Thursday brings 20 to 30 percent chances of snowshowers with daytime temperatures in the mid 30s. Night hours are expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping into the teens NWS said.

There are 40 to 70 percent chances of snow and rain on Friday with temperatures to hit highs around 40. Night precipitation odds are around 50 to 60 percent with thermometers dropping into the low 30s.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Wednesday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Thursday - A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 32. North wind around 7 mph.

Thursday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

Friday - A chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow between 11am and noon, then rain likely after noon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 41. East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday night - Rain and snow likely before midnight, then a chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 32. South wind around 8 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday - A chance of snow showers before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 9am and 11am, then a chance of rain showers after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. West wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday night - A chance of snow showers before 1am, then a chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday - Snow likely before 9am, then rain and snow likely between 9am and 10am, then rain likely after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 45. East wind 9 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday night - A chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow showers between midnight and 4am, then a chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
