CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting orders for the 2019 annual tree seedling and shrub program through March 1. Tree pick-up date is expected to be March 22.
Small 1-to-3 year-old bare root seedlings of many types will be available. Prices start at $1.10 and go up to $3.20 each depending on the species ordered. Minimum order is 10 of one species unless otherwise specified or you can order by the thousands. Some prices decrease with quantity.
Offered are two species of pines, two spruces, balsam fir, white cedar, and several varieties of hardwoods such as sugar maple, tulip poplar, black cherry, red oak, black tupelo, sycamore, and river birch.
Also available are several trees and shrubs suitable for wildlife such as red raspberry, elderberry, American cranberry, red stem dogwood, eastern redbud, purple lilac, and blueberries. Three different wildflower seed mixtures are available along with supplies such as fertilizer tablets, tree plantation signs, tree protectors and stakes.
Proceeds of the sale will benefit conservation projects in the county.
