St. Lawrence County was recently awarded a $47,161 judicial settlement as a result of welfare fraud investigations.
St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services and the District Attorney’s Office say they investigated “numerous cases of reported fraud.”
These investigations focused on welfare fraud, offering a false instrument for filing, unlawful use of a benefit card, forgery and other violations of the state penal law, according to DSS.
The programs affected by the reported fraud include SNAP (Food Stamps), Temporary Assistance, Day Care, Medicaid, and HEAP.
During this period, the county obtained judicial settlement of $47,161 and sanctioned defendants preventing them from receiving further benefits from the programs they defrauded, DSS said.
