Draft elements of St. Lawrence County’s latest Agricultural Development Plan, aimed at helping strengthen and diversify the agricultural industry, are now online for review and comment.
“To date, a majority of the plan’s economic profile, land use analysis and public forum summary are complete” and ready for public review and comment, said the St. Lawrence County Planning Office’s Matilda Larson.
Draft portions of the Ppan can be accessed online at https://www.co.st-lawrence.ny.us/Departments/Planning/Publications/AgPlan
The document will include goals and strategies that are based on economic data obtained from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and New York State Department of Labor, an assessment of natural resources that are used for agricultural and forestry production, and community feedback obtained through public forums and an online survey.
Efforts to complete the second half of the plan will continue through summer 2016, which will include an online survey of the agricultural community, analyzing compatibility between prime agricultural lands and local land use regulations, and developing goals and strategies with input from project stakeholders.
The anticipated adoption date of the plan by the county Board of Legislators is the end of 2016.
