St. Lawrence County Clerk Mary Lou Rupp is warning residents to be aware of a “legal deed scam” which asks them to purchase a copy of their deed for $83.
The solicitation letter comes as an invoice and is labeled “Deed Processing Notice.” The scam reappears in the county every few years, advising homeowners to obtain a copy of their “grant deed” for the $83 fee.
Residents of St. Lawrence County can obtain a certified copy of their deed at the County Clerk’s Office for $5.
