Boat launches in St. Lawrence County will soon have signs warning boaters of aquatic invasive species, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
Senator Betty Little was one of the measure's co-sponsors. She represents the 45th Senate District, which includes southeastern St. Lawrence County, from Piercefield to Lawrence.
The Department of Environmental Conservation has a year to post 18-by-24-inch signs, Cuomo said.
"Aquatic invasive species (AIS) such as zebra mussels, asian clams and hydrilla, pose a serious threat to the ecosystems and economies of the communities around lakes, rivers and other bodies of waters throughout New York State," Cuomo said in a prepared statement.
“A clear and consistent message will help drive the point that preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species is the responsibility of every boater,” Little said.
