CANTON -- After school programs in St. Lawrence County are encouraged to apply for $1,000 from Creating Healthy Places to make healthful changes to their programming.
Those interested should visit: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HTF5265 to complete a pre-assessment survey of your after school program.
Deadline to submit a completed survey is 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.
The completed survey will then be reviewed and Creating Healthy Places staff will contact the submitter. Staff will identify three areas in after school programs to write action plans and policy for to create healthy changes.
For example, students should spend 20 percent of their time in the program engaged in active play. Submitters should write a policy that reflects that new requirement, and Creating Healthy Places can fund the purchase of active play equipment such as jump ropes, kick balls, etc. to make that play time more fun.
