Snow, sleet, freeezing rain, rain expected this weekend in St. Lawrence County; cloudy, calm today

A wintry mix is expected Saturday night into Sunday as a strong warm front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Before that, today will see cloudy skies with a high near 35 and an overnight low near 25, NWS says.

Precipitation will likely start off as snow and transition to sleet, freezing rain and ultimately rain on Saturday night, forecasters say.

Snowfall amounts will generally range upwards to an inch during the onset of precipitation with the potential of ice accumulations less than one tenth of an inch Saturday night, NWS says.

Temperatures on Sunday will warm into the lower to mid 40s which will change precipitation

over to rain and bring an end to the wintry mix, the service says. Drier conditions will persist through the day on Saturday with two transient high pressure systems tracking across the region.

The high Saturday will be 37 with an overnight around 32, the service says.

The forecast through the middle of next is as follows:

Saturday

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night

Rain, mainly after 9pm. Low around 32. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday

Rain, mainly before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. High near 47. East wind around 7 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday Night

Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday

A chance of rain showers before 8am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 8am and 1pm, then a chance of snow showers after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 38. West wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
