SLC forecast: Chance of showers, thunderstorms Saturday; sunny Sunday; hot Monday

The National Weather Service says there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms around the area on Saturday, which they expect to be followed by a seasonable Sunday and a hot Monday.

Meteorologists say there is a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers then thunderstorms during the day on Saturday with temperatures in the low 80s, and a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms at night with temps dropping to the mid-60s.

Sunday is forecast to be sunny during the day with temperatures in the high 80s and a mostly clear night with temperatures dropping to the mid-60s.

Monday is predicted to be hot, in the low 90s, with heavy rain at night in the low 70s followed by rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, NWS said.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Satiurrday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3am, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight.

Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 91. South wind 5 to 8 mph.

Monday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
