CANTON -- For the sixth straight year, SUNY Canton accounting students are working with the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to help low- and moderate-income individuals and families prepare their taxes this tax season.
The qualifying income bracket for participants is a gross income below $49,000, according to the IRS. Sessions are being held on SUNY Canton's campus in Payson Hall Room 208 when the college is in session.
Student volunteers are available through April 8 Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, noon to 6 p.m.; Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Fridays, 9 a.m to 2 p.m.
Appointments are strongly encouraged and are required for military and foreign student returns. Individuals or families needing assistance must bring all W2 forms, the previous year's tax returns and all other pertinent documents with them at the time of their appointment.
