Sixth person arrested in Canton-Potsdam drug investigation in which which $14,000 in cash, $10,000 in drugs was seized

A Maryland man has become the sixth person arrested in a St. Lawrence County Drug Task investigation that initially netted four arrests, weapons, $14,000 cash, and $10,000 in drugs last week in Canton and Potsdam.

On Dec. 13, the task force charged James M. Brady, 19, Silver Springs, Md., with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.

Investigators report they executed a search warrant on Brady's room and seized over 25 grams of marijuana along with $7,000.

Brady was issued an appearance ticket for Canton Village Court on Dec. 31 at 9:30 a.m.

On Dec. 6, the task force arrested and charged:

• James H. Walker, Jr., 21, of Newport, R.I., conspiracy in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

• William G. Bowen 21, 14 Lincoln St., Canton, criminal sale of marihuana 3rd, (E felony) and criminal possession of marihuana 4th (A misdemeanor).

• Jordan C. Willette 22, 170 Pleasant Valley Rd, Potsdam, criminal sale of marihuana 3rd (E felony), open container and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.

• Sam W. Gardner 21, 38 Judson St, Canton, obstruction governmental administration 2nd (A misdemeanor), resisting arrest (A misdemeanor), unlawful possession of marihuana (a violation).

• Matthew P. Vanhyning 23, 6232 County Rt. 27, Canton, criminal sale of marihuana 3rd (E felony) and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th (A misdemeanor).

Armed with search warrants, police said they seized $14,000 cash, two and a half pounds of marijuana, 60 Oxycontin tablets, one illegal handgun and a shotgun.

The investigation continues and more arrests are pending, according to a statement from the task force.
