Sixteen volunteer crews from St. Lawrence County headed to help flood victims in the Catskill Mountains

Elements of 15 volunteer fire departments from St. Lawrence County left this morning for the northern Catskill Mountain town of Cobleskill,

The volunteers will be working on de-watering and debris removal from the areas around Schoharie Creek ravaged by flash flooding after the remnants of Hurricane Irene swept through the region.

Departments sending crews are Norwood, Madrid, Waddington, Colton, Parishville, West Potsdam, Potsdam, Morristown, Pyrites, Massena, Rensselaer Falls, Richville, Gouverneur, Edwards, and two crews from Lisbon.

The convoy left at about 4 a.m. today. They are expected to be on the scene and at work for 48 hours.
