Special state funding of $51,000 will help support local high school marching bands in the 48th State Senate District, according to Sen. Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton).
Of $51,000 going to schools in the entire district, $36,000 is going to St. Lawrence County schools, with Heuvelton, Edwards-Knox Central, Hermon-DeKalb, Madrid-Waddington, Morristown, Canton, Massena, Ogdensburg, Hammond and Gouverneur school districts, each getting $4,000.
Ritchie’s 48th District covers northern St. Lawrence County including Ogdensburg, Canton, Gouverneur, Oswegatchie, Waddington, Lisbon, Madrid, Louisville, DeKalb, DePeyster, Hermon, Edwards, Fowler, Rossie, Macomb, Morristown, and Hammond, plus Jefferson and Oswego counties.
“As a former high school band member myself, I know that activities like this help students build invaluable life skills and also allow them to further develop their musical talents,” said Ritchie.
