NORWOOD – A scholarship in memory of former school board president and teacher Jon Hazen was approved at the Feb. 13 Norwood-Norfolk Central School Board of Education meeting.

The money for this scholarship was from the Class of 1964.

“The recipient of this scholarship should be a well-rounded student pursuing a career in teaching,” said NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank. “This is a very special scholarship to me and many of those serving on the Board.”

“We knew Jon as a leader in the Board room, but many of us remember the impact he had as a teacher,” Cruikshank said.

Hazen died Nov. 20. He started serving on the board in July 2010. He was vice president for 2011-2012 and then president from July 2012 until his passing.

“The Board was very appreciative of the Class of 1964 and hopes that this scholarship can enable another to follow in Jon's footsteps,” he said.
