OGDENSBURG -- The Salvation Army is asking people to sponsor an American flag to be placed at one of the monuments in Ogdensburg, at a place of business or at a residence as an acknowledgement and tribute to the service and sacrifice of a veteran or active military service member.

Each 3-by-5-foot will stand on a 10-foot staff on five patriotic holidays -- Fourth of July 2018, Labor Day 2018, Veterans Day 2018, Memorial Day 2019 and Flag Day 2019 -- starting this Fourth of July. Each flag will include a yellow ribbon with an attached card naming the person being honored, military branch, years of service, and sponsor’s name.

A $60 donation sponsors a flag for all five of these patriotic holidays.

To sponsor a flag. complete the form you will find at https://www.facebook.com/TSAOGDNY and write a check to The Salvation Army for $60.

Mail the form and check before June 30, 2018 to The Salvation Army c/o Lieutenant Shaun McNeil, PO Box 404, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

The flag and the staff will remain property of The Salvation Army in Ogdensburg and will be removed at the end of each holiday. In the spring of 2019 you will receive a solicitation via email or US mail to renew the sponsorship for another year.
