CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University Saints open the 2010 volleyball season Friday, September 3rd at the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Classic in Cortland. They will play Montclair State at 6pm and SUNY-Fredonia at 8pm.

Senior Abigail Rose and junior Nyasha Miller have been elected team captains for the team.

"I am very excited about the leadership that both Abby and Nyasha will provide for our season, said head coach Shelly Roiger. “They are both great competitors but at the same time they have a good pulse of what makes our team tick. The players respect both of them a great deal not only for what they do for us on the court but for the people that they are off the court as well."

Rose, a native of Sausalito, Calif., played in 131 sets last season, recording 1,166 assists while providing 135 kills and 88 service aces. Averaging 8.9 assists per set, she broke the St. Lawrence University all-time assist record against St. Joseph's College and currently totals 3463 assists in her career. In 2009, Rose was named co-player of the Liberty League.

Miller, a Mt. Kisco native, played in 85 sets last season, recording 218 kills, good for third on the team. She also earned 178 digs and 27 service aces. Coming off a stellar rookie season where she earned second-team all-league honors, Miller continued to be one of the top contributors on the team and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Oswego State Invitational.
