AKWESASNE -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has announced that James Lazore has been selected as the new director of economic development. He begins work on July 16.
Lazore has more than a decade of experience in the field, most recently as general manager of the Mistissini Cree Nation’s Eskan Development Corporation. Lazore previously served as business development coordinator for the Cree Regional Economic Enterprises Company and is a small business owner, operating two café and bake shop franchises in Mistissini Quebec with his wife Elaine MacLeod.
Lazore graduated with a degree in business administration from SUNY Potsdam and earned his master of business administration from Clarkson University in 2005.
For the past year, Lazore has served as the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Grants and Contracts Manager, and was appointed to the Board of Managers for Mohawk Networks in May 2017.
The services of the SRMT Office of Economic Development are designed to assist Mohawk entrepreneurs in developing a vibrant business community that supports job creation and economic self-sufficiency for Akwesasne.
As economic development director, Lazore will oversee efforts to strengthen and diversify the community’s economy through technical trainings, consultation services, employment resources and opportunities, as well as assorted economic initiatives.

James is the son of Ron and Pauline Lazore of Tsi Snaihne district, Akwesasne and the brother of Christina Lazore-Smoke, Pamela Pembleton and Terri Lazore-Silver. He is married to Elaine MacLeod of the Mistissini Cree Nation and has two daughters, Allison and Reannon.
