OSWEGATCHIE – A Russell woman is accused by state police of the theft of gift items from a United Helpers facility.
Troopers responded at about noon Friday, Jan. 5 to 112 McIntyre Rd. for a report of a larceny from the United Helpers’ McIntyre Road Individualized Residential Alternatives facility.
Staff told investigators property purchased by the residents for Christmas, which consisted of six DVD movies and two electronic toothbrushes, were stolen sometime between Dec. 13, 2017, and Jan. 3, 2018. The total value was approximately $178.29, troopers said.
An investigation revealed that a staff member, 29-year-old Danielle M. Dancause of Russell, stole the gifts and then returned them to the Walmart in Ogdensburg where she received a Walmart gift card, according to police.
Dancause was arrested Sunday, Jan. 7 and charged with petit larceny. She was released on an appearance ticket, returnable to Oswegatchie Town Court Jan. 17.
