Rocco announces retirement from North Country Public Radio in Canton

CANTON -- Long-time North Country Public Radio station manager Ellen Rocco has announced her retirement as of June 30, 2019.

Ms. Rocco joined NCPR in 1980 as development director and was promoted to station manager in 1985.

She has overseen the expansion of the station from a single transmitter service in St. Lawrence County to a network of more than 30 transmitters reaching the entire Adirondack North Country, as well as northwestern Vermont and southeastern Ontario.

“It has been an honor to work with our remarkable NCPR team--I am so proud of the regional news service we’ve created, a service that rightfully garners significant regional and national recognition every year,” said Ms. Rocco.

“We also produce special content and programs, like North Country at Work (www.ncpr.org/work) and The Howl (www.ncpr.org/howl), and these, too, have established our reputation as a small station that punches well above its weight.”

This year, the station is marking a number of changes as the founding generation turns leadership over to a new generation of public media professionals. “In some ways, this is the moment I’ve been working for,” said Ms. Rocco.

“What could be better than knowing we have talented, committed, and innovative people in the new generation at NCPR.”

St. Lawrence University, which holds NCPR’s broadcast license, has initiated a search through DRi, a national leadership search firm. Those interested in applying for the position can do so at:
