Republican candidate for 115th Assembly District seat kicks off campaign; 'eager to represent North Country values'

Kevin Mulverhill, Republican candidate for the state Assembly’s 115th District, kicked off his campaign on Wednesday at the Clinton County Government Center Community Room in Plattsburgh.

Mulverhill, the sitting Franklin County sheriff, says he “is eager to continue his career in public service and represent North Country values in the state Legislature after serving in law enforcement for more than 23 years.”

The 115th Assembly District includes a slim portion of eastern St. Lawrence County from Brasher down to Piercefield, plus all of Franklin and Clinton counties.

Janet Duprey, R-Peru, currently holds the seat. She is not running for another term. Billy Jones will seek the Democrats’ nod for the seat. He is chairman of the Franklin County Board of Legislators.

“I am eager and excited to officially announce the start of my 2016 Assembly campaign,” Mulverhill said in a prepared statement. “I have been out in the district, attending community events and talking with residents for months now and the response has been overwhelmingly positive and welcoming. My decades of experience in law enforcement and community engagement have given me the tools to stand up to the entrenched corruption in Albany and fight the New York City machine that is driving our state into the ground. I am proud to have this opportunity and look forward to giving the North Country a voice in Albany this January.”

Duprey has endorsed Mulverhill for him to occupy her seat.

“Kevin has been an outstanding public servant during his tenure as sheriff here in Franklin County and during his 23 years with the state police,” the assemblywoman said. “I know he will continue that success as our next assemblyman. Kevin’s character, dedication to his work and exemplary track record of success make him perfect to represent the North Country in the State Legislature.”
